MLB wild card winners and losers star do-nothing Dodgers, flailing Phillies

The opening round of Major League Baseball playoffs concluded with higher seeds securing three of four series victories, leaving eight contenders to advance into the Division Series. Notably, the Los Angeles Dodgers benefited from the early elimination of tough pitching rivals such as the Philadelphia Phillies, streamlining their path forward.

delivered four hits across two nights to help the New York Yankees sweep Boston.
