Following a 56-23 defeat to Alabama, Mississippi State is utilizing its bye week to evaluate depth players as several starters deal with injuries. Coach Jeff Lebby is managing the status of quarterback Kamario Taylor, running back Fluff Bothwell, and linebacker Jalen Smith, all of whom sustained injuries during the loss.
With the team holding a 4-1 record before their upcoming matchup against LSU, the coaching staff is looking at redshirt freshman Parker Puckett to potentially step in at quarterback, while running back Kolin Wilson and tight end Joeseph Skipworth are being considered for expanded roles in the offense. Puckett saw late action against the Crimson Tide, completing three of six passes for 26 yards, and Wilson led the team with 27 rushing yards on 10 attempts.
Skipworth also contributed to the passing attack by recording three receptions for 26 yards, including two key third-down conversions.
