Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is expected to return as the starter for Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Chicago Bears, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Penix suffered a rib injury during the Falcons’ overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5, exiting the game after being sacked by Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson with under 20 seconds remaining. Though he briefly returned for one play before being replaced by Tua Tagovailoa, Penix did not re-enter the game during overtime, where Atlanta ultimately fell 30–23.
Stefanski confirmed Penix will practice with limitations this week, with his starting status contingent on how he recovers. The Falcons have shown marked improvement since Penix took over as the starter in Week 3, posting a 2–1 record compared to a 0–2 start with Cooper Rush at quarterback.
