The Associated Press Top 25 poll delivered a historic shakeup this week, with Miami reclaiming the No. 1 spot for the first time since the 2002 season.
The Hurricanes, who edged out Florida State in double overtime to remain unbeaten, secured 40 first-place votes and a commanding lead over the rest of the field. Their ascent marks the first ACC team to top the rankings since Clemson in 2020, underscoring their dominance in a season where five of the top seven teams suffered losses—a first in the poll’s 90-year history.
Meanwhile, BYU climbed to No. 2, its highest ranking since its 1984 national championship campaign, after overcoming a 10.5-point underdog disadvantage to defeat Notre Dame in a thrilling 28-24 victory.
Ohio State rounded out the top three, while Notre Dame and Georgia held onto the Nos. 4 and 5 spots despite recent close losses.
The poll also saw a complete turnover in the Top 25, with only two teams dropping out entirely, as Florida and Arizona entered the rankings for the first time this season.
