The Miami Dolphins’ struggling 2026 campaign took another hit with a 31–24 home loss to the Bengals, extending their record to 0–5. Despite the defeat, second-year running back Ollie Gordon II has emerged as the team’s most reliable offensive weapon since replacing injured starter De’Von Achane.
Gordon’s performance against Cincinnati—where he totaled 88 rushing yards on 18 carries and scored his third touchdown of the season—has already eclipsed his entire rookie-year rushing output and matched his touchdown total from last year. His physical, high-volume style has been the lone bright spot in an offense otherwise stalling under quarterback Malik Willis’ direction, offering a rare spark in a season where Miami has yet to play a complete game of cohesive football.
With Gordon’s breakout role solidified, offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik would be wise to continue leaning on him as the season progresses. The Dolphins’ early-season struggles have left them searching for answers, and Gordon’s ability to dominate against tough defenses—even in the oppressive South Florida heat—could prove critical in turning the franchise’s fortunes around.
His success so far suggests he may be the only player capable of consistently moving the ball in an offense that has otherwise shown little cohesion.
