The Toronto Maple Leafs have moved forward Dakota Joshua to the American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies under a long-term injured reserve conditioning assignment. This transaction marks a step forward for the veteran player after a core muscle and abdominal issue kept him out of action since training camp began for the 2026-27 campaign.
Joshua initially faced a day-to-day evaluation before shifting to week-to-week status, which ultimately resulted in an LTIR placement alongside Max Domi on September 30 to grant the franchise salary cap relief. Under league guidelines, this conditioning stint is restricted to a maximum duration of six days or three games, with a possible two-game extension permitted by mutual consent to evaluate his readiness.
Joshua is currently playing through the third campaign of a four-year, $13 million pact carrying a $3.25 million annual average value that he originally finalized with Vancouver in June 2024 prior to his acquisition by Toronto in July 2025. His previous year with the club involved multiple physical setbacks, including a lacerated kidney and an upper-body ailment that interrupted his playing time across fifty-five appearances.
