During the second quarter of Sunday's matchup in Baltimore, Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton delivered a powerful blitz immediately after the snap, driving Titans quarterback Cam Ward to the turf for an apparent sack. However, the Tennessee sideline had successfully requested a timeout just prior to the snap, rendering the play dead before the collision occurred.
Because Hamilton delivered a forceful blow after the whistle, the officiating crew assessed him a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty. The deafening roar of the home crowd prevented the defender from hearing the whistle, as the noise had already made it difficult for the visiting offense to communicate their signals.
The infraction ultimately proved harmless to Baltimore, as their defense managed to stop the Titans on a crucial fourth-and-goal later in the same possession.
