The Los Angeles Kings’ season has taken a dire turn after a 4-1 home loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, extending their winless streak to 0-3-2—the worst start in franchise history. The Kings, already one of two teams in the NHL without a regulation win, were outmatched from the opening faceoff, as Oilers stars Conor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined for three first-period goals, including a hat trick alongside Vasily Podkolzin, to build a 3-0 lead in just eight minutes.
Despite a late rally, including a season-opening goal by Brandt Clarke, the Kings’ defense and goaltender Darcy Kuemper struggled to contain Edmonton’s offensive firepower, leaving them with just one goal on 40 shots—a season high that still wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. The Oilers, playing without key players due to injury, dominated in every facet, while the Kings’ top line, featuring Artemi Panarin, Quinton Byfield, and Adrian Kempe, managed only 19 shot attempts without a goal, underscoring their offensive woes.
The loss deepens concerns about the team’s chemistry and defensive structure, as they continue to falter at home despite outshouting Edmonton in shot attempts (12-7).
