Kentucky football etched its name into the record books with a thrilling 35–34 overtime victory over No. 10 LSU on Saturday, marking the first time an FBS program has won back-to-back one-point overtime games in the same season.
The unranked Wildcats, led by coach Will Stein, now hold the season’s best record against top-10 opponents, having already stunned Texas A&M in College Station earlier this year. The game was a rollercoaster, with LSU’s Scott Starzyk opening the scoring on a 24-yard field goal, but Kentucky’s CJ Baxter quickly tied it before LSU’s Sam Leavitt reclaimed the lead with a 22-yard touchdown pass.
Kentucky’s Brock Coffman then delivered a game-changing 45-yard punt return touchdown to keep the Wildcats in contention. After a back-and-forth battle, Baxter cut the deficit to 34–33, and Kenny Minchey sealed the win with a three-yard two-point conversion in overtime, handing Stein a 1–0 record over former national champion assistant Lane Kiffin and the Tigers.
The victory also solidified Kentucky’s rise as a dark-horse contender, following their upset win over Pittsburgh earlier this month. The Wildcats’ ability to close out high-pressure games in overtime—twice by a single point—highlights their resilience and tactical execution under Stein, who now faces a new challenge: maintaining momentum against a loaded SEC schedule.
