Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid has dismissed the idea that any of his teammates will need to step aside to accommodate the team’s star-studded lineup this season. With the addition of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James—joining Tyrese Maxey and Embiid himself—the Sixers now boast four All-Stars in their starting rotation, a lineup that mirrors the depth of past championship squads but operates on a different philosophy.
Embiid, speaking after a preseason game, framed the dynamic as one of mutual support rather than hierarchy, insisting that each player should focus on their strengths while collectively backing one another. His stance contrasts with past superteams, like the Miami Heat’s Big Three, where Chris Bosh famously played a secondary role to facilitate James and Dwyane Wade’s leadership.
While Embiid’s vision avoids forced sacrifices, the reality of crunch-time basketball may still require tactical adjustments, especially when all four stars share the court simultaneously. James, now 42, has signaled his willingness to adapt, having taken a minimum contract to join the team, while Brown brings championship experience from his time alongside another star in Boston.
The Sixers’ challenge will be balancing individual brilliance with cohesive teamwork to sustain success when the regular season begins.
