The New York Islanders secured their first consecutive wins of the year on Tuesday, defeating the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. Ondrej Palat, Viktor Eklund, and Simon Holmstrom each found the back of the net during the opening frame.
Palat's goal, with 6:21 remaining in the first, was set up by Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Eklund then increased the lead to two goals, scoring off a loose puck from Emil Heineman's shot.
Frank Vatrano responded quickly for Anaheim, scoring 49 seconds later via a feed from A.J. Greer.
Holmstrom regained the two-goal cushion on a power play with 1:18 left in the first period, deflecting a shot from Mathew Schaefer. Ilya Sorokin stopped 15 shots to help New York move to 3-0-1 in their last four contests.
Alex Killorn scored the second goal for the Ducks, who have now dropped four straight games. Lukas Dostal made 22 saves in the loss.
The Islanders will face Los Angeles on Thursday, while the Ducks travel to New Jersey for a game on Thursday night.
