The New York Giants could capitalize on the Indianapolis Colts’ potential fire sale after a dismal 2-4 start and the firing of general manager Chris Ballard. With the Giants leading the NFC East, they may target Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who has thrived in recent seasons with four 1,000-yard campaigns and 18 rushing touchdowns in 2025.
The Giants’ backfield has struggled, with Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary averaging under 4 yards per carry and four combined fumbles, while coach John Harbaugh has openly sought a dominant running back to elevate the offense. Taylor’s contract, however, includes $34 million in guaranteed salary through 2028, complicating a trade, though reports suggest a first-round pick in 2027 or 2028 could be part of the deal.
Another potential target is defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, a free agent after the season who has been a consistent force since being drafted in 2016. The Giants, who rely on aging linemen D.J.
Reader and Shelby Harris, could use Buckner to address depth concerns, though competition for his services may arise from other teams seeking his experience and leadership.
