Georgia Tech’s season took another hit with a 34-24 loss to Virginia Tech, dropping the Yellow Jackets to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in ACC play. The game was defined by a disastrous first half, where Tech surrendered 180 receiving yards to Que’sean Brown on just five catches and fell behind 24-3, including an early interception.
The defense struggled without linebacker Kyle Efford, who medically retired earlier in the week, and allowed Virginia Tech to dominate early. Georgia Tech managed a late rally in the second half, scoring touchdowns from Tre Maddox and Dalen Penson to cut the deficit to 24-17, but Virginia Tech’s offense proved too much in the end.
Quarterback Alberto Mendoza set a career high with 335 passing yards on 29 completions out of 38 attempts, while wide receiver Jordan Allen hauled in ten catches for 120 yards. Despite three turnovers—two fumbles by Mendoza and one by Rahkeem Smith—the Jackets avoided any defensive takeaways, though their first-half struggles ultimately sealed the loss.
The upcoming matchup against Boston College for Homecoming next week will be a critical test for a team still searching for consistency.
