The New Jersey Devils prepare for their opening game of the 2026-27 season on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers, setting the stage for a former Detroit prospect to debut within the same conference. Amadeus Lombardi, previously drafted by Detroit in the fourth round back in 2022, was traded to New Jersey during the offseason in a deal involving a fourth-round pick later used to select Canadian center Adam Levac.
The 23-year-old Newmarket native put up nearly a point per game across his sophomore and junior American Hockey League seasons, though a crowded prospect pipeline in Detroit ultimately limited his path to the majors.
