Flames Rookie Jonathan Costagna Rises to Challenge in NHL Debut

Jonathan Costagna made his NHL debut for the Calgary Flames on October 9, 2026, in a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The 21‑year‑old forward took a rookie lap during warm‑ups, then faced a line that included stars Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and former Flame Nazem Kadri, saying he tried to play with a "beat you" mindset despite the intimidating opposition.

Costagna recorded his first NHL point by feeding Adam Klapka, whose speed and wrist shot produced the play’s only highlight for the rookie. He reflected on the experience as a memorable first game and expressed optimism about his future contributions to the Flames.
