First-class cricketer Robin Das charged with two counts of rape; county side Essex confirms

Essex county cricketer Robin Das has been formally charged with two counts of rape following a police investigation into an alleged assault in Brixton from March 2024. The twenty-four-year-old batsman, who last featured for his side in July during a One-Day Cup fixture, was initially arrested in August 2025 before receiving the official charges earlier this year and is scheduled to appear at the Inner London Crown Court in October.

While the county organization acknowledged in a statement that a contracted player has faced court proceedings regarding matters outside team duties and remains under indefinite suspension alongside ongoing internal safeguarding measures, management chose to withhold the individual's identity. The case follows several historical legal controversies involving professional cricketers across various international and domestic circuits, including past convictions and active legal battles.
