England winger Freeman signs new Northampton deal

Reigning Premiership champions Northampton Saints have secured England back Tommy Freeman on a fresh contract, keeping the 25-year-old at Franklin's Gardens past the final year that was left on his previous terms. Freeman debuted for the team in 2019, amassing 79 tries across 118 appearances and scoring the opening tries in both the 2024 final against Bath and the 2026 decider versus Exeter Chiefs.

His commitment follows contract extensions by national squad peers Alex Mitchell, Fin Smith, and Fraser Dingwall, while Henry Pollock has yet to resolve his future at the club. Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson welcomed the early retention, and head coach Sam Vesty noted Freeman's versatility across the backline, including potential future shifts to full-back alongside his usual duties at wing and centre.

Since earning his senior international debut in autumn 2021, Freeman has registered 11 tries across 30 caps for England. He also featured six times during the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour of Australia, where he participated in three Test matches.

Explaining his choice to stay, Freeman credited the club's coaching staff and tight-knit squad for nurturing his career and enabling his achievements on the international stage.
