Having stepped away from football following the 2020 campaign, Brees ultimately preserved his five-season waiting period and entered Canton as part of the 2026 class. Denver has since pressed forward under Payton, who views his current roster as a legitimate championship contender as he approaches the top ten in career NFL coaching victories.
