College football Week 6 players to watch: Can Demond Williams Jr. lead Washington to a win over No. 20 Iowa?

October 8, 2026

Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. faces a critical test against No.

20 Iowa, where his dual-threat abilities will be under the microscope. The junior has already thrown for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns while also leading the Huskies in rushing with 53 carries and multiple rushing scores.

Iowa’s pass defense struggled last week against Ohio State, but Williams must replicate that success to keep Washington’s offense moving—currently averaging six yards per play despite a 0-2 start in conference play. Meanwhile, Army’s Cale Hellums looks to build on his ground-game success, having rushed for at least 87 yards in each of his two wins this season, including all five of his rushing touchdowns.

His performance could be pivotal for the Black Knights, who sit at 2-2 overall and need a late-season push in the American Athletic Conference.

Noah Fifita of Arizona eyes another high-scoring outing against West Virginia, where the Mountaineers’ defense has allowed over 290 passing yards per game while surrendering more than two touchdowns per contest. The Wildcats’ quarterback has thrown for 1,415 yards and 13 touchdowns in five games, and Arizona’s offensive firepower could exploit West Virginia’s vulnerabilities.

Meanwhile, Pitt’s Holden Geriner makes his first career start after Mason Heintschel’s season-ending knee injury, stepping into a high-octane offense that has already seen Geriner throw 26 passes—more than he attempted in his first four college seasons combined. His ability to sustain that production will be key for the Panthers, who remain undefeated and eye a fifth straight win.

Florida’s Jadan Baugh, however, faces a major hurdle after a forgettable Week 5 performance against Missouri, where he managed just 13 yards on 12 carries. The running back had dominated early in the season with 600 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in the first four games, but his struggles against the Tigers could impact Florida’s No.

16 ranking as they host South Carolina this weekend.
