College football risers, fallers: Northwestern makes statement, Michigan crashes out

Alabama established its championship credentials by defeating Mississippi State 56-23 on the road, powered by first-year starting quarterback Keelon Russell who accounted for four total touchdowns and outplayed opposing Heisman candidate Kamario Taylor. The Crimson Tide, led by third-year head coach Kalen DeBoer and coordinator Kane Wommack, now prepare to host Georgia with ESPN carrying College GameDay to the campus.

Meanwhile, Northwestern dominated Penn State 34-13 by rushing for 413 yards and five scores using an old Wing T scheme installed by offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, lifting a roster featuring Michigan State transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles and head coach David Braun. Missouri also secured a major victory by crushing Florida 45-17, fueled by head coach Eli Drinkwitz and standout transfer passer Austin Simmons.
