An 18-year-old University of Missouri offensive lineman is in critical need of a heart transplant after being diagnosed through routine testing this summer. Johnnie ‘DJ’ Jones, a freshman, was transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where doctors confirmed he requires urgent medical intervention.
Coach Eli Drinkwitz revealed the news during an emotional press conference on October 6, stating that Jones was hospitalized and facing a race against time. Drinkwitz shared that Jones had attended the Tigers’ game against Florida on October 3, just days before his condition became known.
The coach emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that an 18-year-old with a full future ahead should not face such a diagnosis. Jones’ former high school team, Venice Football, also expressed support in a public post, urging fans to send their well wishes.
His exact medical condition remains undisclosed.
