The FIA has announced plans to eliminate a regulatory loophole exploited by Red Bull Racing ahead of the 2027 Formula 1 season, targeting an aerodynamic innovation introduced on the RB22 this year. The team capitalized on a gray area in the current rules by incorporating a 'floor body stay'—a cable running along the sidepod ridge—that allowed for sharper aerodynamic edges than otherwise permitted.
FIA technical delegates will close this loophole by reducing the floor support dimension from 20mm to just 5mm, forcing Red Bull to redesign the affected area for next season. Meanwhile, the team has enjoyed a strong resurgence in 2023, with Max Verstappen securing back-to-back victories in Malaysia and Singapore, where he praised the car’s improved balance and predictability.
Verstappen acknowledged the team’s progress, noting that recent races have been marked by fewer issues and greater consistency, though he downplayed championship ambitions in favor of focusing on podiums and wins.
