Chiefs Week 4 snap count analysis: Chamarri Conner returns as starter

October 5, 2026

The Kansas City Chiefs made key adjustments to their defensive lineup in Week 4’s 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, with safety Chamarri Conner reclaiming his starting role after a season-long absence. Conner played 63 snaps—75% of the team’s defensive snaps—matching the usage of slot cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, while third-year safety Jaden Hicks saw limited action with just 29 snaps.

Hicks, however, contributed significantly in run defense, logging 13 snaps compared to Conner’s 18, highlighting the Chiefs’ strategic flexibility in deploying their safety group. The offensive side also saw notable shifts, as rookie running back Emmett Johnson carved out a pass-down role with 17 snaps, including 12 in passing situations, while second-year back Brashard Smith remained largely sidelined with just two offensive snaps all season.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Jalen Royals stepped up in the absence of Tyquan Thornton, recording 38 snaps—his second-highest total of the year—though he went without a catch on two targets. Rookie Cyrus Allen, meanwhile, played just five snaps, including a single target on a long, low-percentage throw from Patrick Mahomes.
