Qatar’s beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan delivered a commanding performance at the recent AVC Asian Beach Volleyball Tour stop in Doha, securing the men’s gold medal with a flawless tournament record. The Olympic bronze medalists from Tokyo 2020 dominated every match, including a 2-0 semifinal win over Australia’s Joshua Howat and Finley Bennett and a dominant 2-0 final victory over Oliver Merritt and Jed Walker, who had also gone unbeaten until the championship match.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Solomon Bushby and Justin Schumann claimed bronze after a hard-fought playoff against Howat and Bennett, while Jana Milutinovic and Tara Phillips added women’s bronze to Australia’s medal haul. The event highlighted the impact of FIVB Volleyball Empowerment support, with five of six medals won by teams from federations receiving funding, including Qatar, Australia, and Japan, whose Asami Shiba and Reika Murakami secured silver in the women’s division.
Thailand’s Taravadee Naraphornrapat and Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee took the women’s gold, rounding out a tournament where Empowerment-backed programs played a pivotal role in shaping results.
