The Los Angeles Chargers will enter their Week 5 clash with the Denver Broncos with a significantly depleted roster, as key contributors on both offense and defense sit out. Wide receiver Quentin Johnston and rookie Brenen Thompson are among those out, forcing the team to rely on a thin receiving corps that includes Ladd McConkey, Tre’ Harris, Derius Davis, and Marquez Valdez-Scantling.
The defensive unit also faces challenges, with safety Derwin James missing his second straight game, handing Tony Jefferson another starting opportunity. On the offensive line, right tackle Joe Alt and offensive guard Kayode Awosika are out, potentially opening the door for rookie Travis Burke to earn his first NFL start at tackle.
The return of tight end Charlie Kolar, listed as questionable, could provide much-needed support, while the status of fullback Scott Matlock, offensive guard Branson Taylor, and cornerback Rodney Shelley remains uncertain. If Taylor returns, it would ease concerns about starting four rookies along the offensive line.
