Burnley ended a 241-day away win drought with a dominant 4-0 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road, their first triumph of the season and first away win since February. The Clarets took full control in the opening 12 minutes, with Jacob Bruun Larsen scoring first after a Reo Hatate assist, before Zeki Amdouni doubled their lead six minutes later.
Hatate then extended Burnley’s lead to 3-0 with a composed finish from 15 yards, sparking angry chants from Watford fans who targeted owner Gino Pozzo and manager Alessio Dionisi, who has now lost five of his last six games. Watford’s defensive struggles continued, marking 29 consecutive matches without a clean sheet, while Dionisi’s decision to sub off Iker Bravo was met with boos from his own supporters.
Watford’s hopes of a comeback faded after the break, despite efforts from Mamadou Doumbia, who saw two chances saved by Burnley goalkeeper Grégoire Coudert. Marcus Edwards sealed the win for Burnley with a late volley, capping a dismal afternoon for Dionisi’s side.
The defeat adds to Watford’s recent woes, with executive chairman Scott Duxbury recently warning of a need for improved performance this season. Meanwhile, Burnley’s Nicky Hayen secured his first three points as manager, lifting the club out of their prolonged slump.
