AFC Bournemouth secured their first Premier League win of the season with a dominant 2-0 victory over Sunderland, who were forced to play a man down for much of the match. The hosts took the lead early when a defensive error from Kevin Danso and Omar Alderete allowed Evanilson to slip through before setting up Marcus Tavernier for a headed goal.
Sunderland’s struggles deepened when Danso was sent off in the first half for a reckless challenge on Evanilson, leaving them with nine players for the remainder of the game. The away side struggled to contain Bournemouth’s attack, and Evanilson doubled the lead shortly after the restart, capitalizing on another defensive mistake by Alderete.
Despite late chances from Rayan and a strong performance from goalkeeper Robin Roefs, Sunderland could not find an answer, dropping to a fourth consecutive loss and sinking to 19th in the table. Bournemouth’s win moves them up to 15th, providing a much-needed boost after a slow start to the campaign.
