Boston Bateman is shaping up as we’d hoped

Baltimore acquired left-handed pitcher Boston Bateman from San Diego in a 2025 mid-season trade involving Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Laureano. The 6-foot-8 prospect impressed in 2026, earning Minor League Pitcher of the Month honors in May while pitching for Frederick.

Despite a mid-season hip issue, he finished the year with 117 strikeouts across 86.1 innings and delivered a dominant 10-strikeout performance during the South Atlantic League playoffs. Manager Collin Woody has praised his high-velocity arsenal, which features a fastball reaching 100 mph alongside a developing slider and changeup.

While he currently ranks as a top-tier organizational prospect, he continues to refine his command after walking 48 batters this season. He remains a developmental project alongside peers like Anthony Eyanson, Joseph Dzierwa, and Caden Hunter.
