Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has addressed the club’s recent workforce reduction, confirming that the decision to eliminate 60 roles—approximately 7% of the 871 permanent staff—was made to streamline operations and prioritize long-term success. The cuts, announced by CEO Richard Garlick, will not impact coaching or performance staff in either the men’s or women’s teams, nor roles in the Arsenal Foundation, community programs, or security.
Arteta, who secured a new four-year contract last month following Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 20 years, acknowledged the restructuring during a press conference ahead of Sunday’s match. The move comes amid record revenues of £691 million for the 2024-25 financial year, though the club still reported a slight operating loss, with costs rising to £200.8 million from the previous year’s £147.9 million.
Arteta emphasized that the changes aim to optimize resources and maintain investment in the club’s ambitions, despite deflecting direct questions about the decision.
