Former Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles is returning to East Lansing this weekend, but his time with the Spartans ended abruptly after losing his starting role to Alessio Milivojevic in 2025. The shift came amid a disappointing season for the program, which also saw head coach Jonathan Smith dismissed and replaced by Pat Fitzgerald.
Chiles later transferred to Northwestern, where he has thrived under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, regaining his love for the game after a period of frustration.
In a recent interview, Chiles revealed that a pivotal phone call from Kelly and quarterbacks coach Jerry Neuheisel convinced him to join the Wildcats. He described a welcoming environment at Northwestern, where he felt confident and excited about football again—a stark contrast to his final months at Michigan State.
While he did not criticize his former program, his comments highlight the contrast between his struggles in East Lansing and the renewed success he’s found in Evanston.
