NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has clarified that LeBron James’ use of a Fanatics-owned helicopter during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers does not violate league rules. The helicopter, provided as part of James’ sponsorship deal with the sports merchandise company, is a personal arrangement between James and Fanatics, with no direct involvement from the Sixers organization.
Silver emphasized that as long as the deal remains between James and Fanatics—without team financing or coordination—there is no conflict with NBA regulations on player compensation or cap circumvention, a topic under scrutiny following the Clippers’ investigation involving Kawhi Leonard.
James, who splits his time between New York and Philadelphia, will make his Sixers debut on October 20 at Madison Square Garden, where he will also receive the Knicks’ 2026 championship rings. The Fanatics helicopter, previously used for commutes between his New York residence and the Sixers’ training facility, will not be needed for this particular game, given the proximity of the venue.
Questions have arisen about whether the connection between Fanatics’ former owner, Michael Rubin, and the Sixers could create a conflict, but Silver dismissed concerns, stating that any potential issues would require concrete evidence of team involvement—similar to what was uncovered in the Clippers case.
