South African fast bowler Chad Laycock etched his name into cricket history by becoming the first player from his country to take five wickets in a single over during a men’s T20 match. In the 19th over of the Titans’ innings in the YesPlay Pro20 Cup, Laycock dismissed four batsmen in four consecutive balls—Leus du Plooy, Dayyaan Galiem, Aphiwe Mnyanda, and Janco Smit—before finishing the over with Esosa Aihevba’s wicket to complete his extraordinary spell.
His figures of 6-26 in just four overs left Titans bowled out for 204, marking the fourth instance of a five-wicket over in men’s T20 cricket and the first by a South African bowler. Laycock had earlier restricted Titans’ openers Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Sinethemba Qeshile to 112 runs, before contributing with the bat himself, scoring an unbeaten 31 off 25 balls during KZN Inland’s unsuccessful chase of 205.
Despite his heroics, his team fell short by 21 runs, though the victory extended Titans’ unbeaten run in the competition to six matches, keeping them atop the standings. Laycock’s debut season in T20s has already showcased his dual talents, with eight wickets at 13.50 alongside 217 runs across 16 matches since his November 2024 debut.
