49ers Dre Greenlaw’s suspension appeal gets crushed after headbutt to helmetless player

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw will miss the team’s Week 6 Monday Night Football game against the Washington Commanders after the NFL upheld his one-game suspension. The penalty stems from Greenlaw’s helmeted headbutt to Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV during Sunday’s Week 5 matchup, an incident that also led to his ejection.

Jones IV was helmetless at the time, and the league cited Greenlaw’s actions as a violation of NFL rules on sportsmanship. This is Greenlaw’s second career suspension, having previously served a one-game ban in 2022 while with the Denver Broncos for confronting an official after a play.

The 49ers will turn to rookie linebacker Jaden Dugger to start in Greenlaw’s absence, following Dugger’s strong performance in the Seahawks game.
