Kentucky secured a dramatic 35-34 overtime victory against LSU in Lexington this past Saturday. After Sam Leavitt opened the extra period with a 15-yard touchdown run for the Tigers, the Wildcats responded with a one-yard score from CJ Baxter.
Kentucky coach Will Stein then opted for a two-point conversion, which Kenny Minchey successfully executed to end the game. The result dropped LSU to a 4-2 record while moving Kentucky to 5-1.
Adam Zouagui forced the overtime period with a 33-yard field goal in the final seconds of regulation, despite missing two earlier attempts. LSU coach Lane Kiffin faced criticism for his late-game clock management, specifically choosing to punt rather than attempt a fourth-down conversion with less than two minutes remaining.
The Tigers struggled with perimeter tackling throughout the contest, allowing Baxter to accumulate 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Brock Coffman also contributed to the Wildcats' effort with a 55-yard punt return for a score.
