Unranked Oklahoma stunned No. 1 Texas 27‑24 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas when Tate Sandell nailed a 47‑yard field goal as time expired.
The Sooners outgained the Longhorns 382‑238, scoring on a second‑quarter blocked punt recovered for a touchdown and a 42‑yard interception return by senior defensive back Peyton Bowen. With the game tied at 24‑24, sophomore defensive back Courtland Guillory intercepted Arch Manning with 19 seconds left, setting up the winning kick.
Texas attempted a fourth‑and‑2 from the Oklahoma 35, sending senior kicker Gianni Spetic beyond 50 yards, but the kick drifted wide and the Longhorns could not recover the ball in the final minute.
Oklahoma’s defense, ranked fourth nationally in pass defense and fifth overall, limited Texas to just three conversions on 14 third‑down attempts. Defensive lineman Danny Okoye blocked a punt that was recovered for a touchdown early in the second quarter, and quarterback John Mateer led the decisive drive after the interception, connecting with Isaiah Sategna III for key gains.
After the loss, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said he still trusts his kicker, while Oklahoma coach Brent Venables praised his unit’s performance.
