Former Indian cricket team director Ravi Shastri has expressed deep frustration regarding his 2016 departure from the role. Shastri claims he was unfairly pushed out despite his performance, suggesting that the Cricket Advisory Committee, which included Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, had ulterior motives when they opted to appoint Anil Kumble as head coach instead of retaining him.
Although the experience caused him significant personal distress, Shastri returned to broadcasting before eventually reclaiming the head coach position in 2017. He credits the period of his ouster with providing him valuable perspective on the modern game and the mindset of younger players.
