Iowa’s Kamari Moulton delivered a dominant rushing performance, amassing a career-high 208 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hawkeyes to a 41-24 victory over Washington in Seattle. Moulton’s explosive outing included a 56-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 3-yard score in the fourth, following a week where Ohio State limited him to just 27 yards.
The Hawkeyes’ offense, bolstered by a strong offensive line, controlled the game from the start, outgaining Washington 465-317 and maintaining a commanding lead throughout. Meanwhile, Iowa’s defense stifled the Huskies’ rushing attack, allowing only minus-3 yards on the ground—the second-lowest total under coach Kirk Ferentz’s tenure—and recording six sacks, including two each from linebackers Cam Buffington and Preston Ries.
Washington’s quarterback struggles also played a role, as Demond Williams Jr. exited with an injury in the first half, and backup Elijah Brown threw three second-half touchdown passes in an unsuccessful effort to rally the Huskies.
Quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski made his first career start after Hank Brown suffered a shoulder injury, completing 14 of 19 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns in his debut. Hecklinski’s accuracy improved significantly after a slow start, connecting with tight end DJ Vonnahme twice and finding Reece Vander Zee for another score.
Iowa’s offensive coordinator, Tim Lester, emphasized a disciplined approach, which paid off as Hecklinski became the fourth Hawkeyes quarterback under Ferentz to throw at least three touchdowns in a starting debut. The win improved Iowa’s record to 5-1 in the Big Ten, while Washington dropped to 3-3 after a tough loss in a rainy Seattle night game.
