“Completely Disrespectful… It’s Not Okay” – Fans Rip Into Iga Swiatek’s Physio After Heated Social Media Exchange Over Wuhan Injury Decision

October 18, 2026

Iga Świątek’s physiotherapist, Maciej Ryszczuk, faced backlash after a contentious exchange over the Polish tennis star’s decision to continue playing at the Wuhan Open despite a visible left-thigh injury. During a semifinal match where Świątek led 5-3 and held two set points, she took a medical timeout after struggling with mobility.

Despite Ryszczuk reportedly advising her to stop multiple times, Świątek chose to return to the court with a bandaged leg, ultimately losing the match to Maja Chwalinska in a dramatic tiebreak. Ryszczuk later clarified on social media that he had urged her to halt play three times, but the final call rested with Świątek herself.

His public statement, however, sparked outrage from fans who criticized the timing and tone of his remarks, calling it disrespectful to address the situation while Świątek was still competing in an injured state.

Following the Wuhan Open, Świątek confirmed her participation in the upcoming Ningbo Open, acknowledging that her season had been disrupted by early exits in Madrid and Miami. Though she expressed confidence in her current form and hitting ability, she noted the tournament results reflected broader struggles.

The Ningbo Open, scheduled for October 19–25, 2026, will mark her next competitive step after the injury-plagued campaign.
